WWI aircraft insignia to command bids of $10,000 with Mohawk Arms

The aircraft insignia of US WWI pilot Lt Paul E Green will sell as part of Mohawk Arms' bi-annual auction on June 8-9 in upstate New York.

WWI aircraft insignia
Lt Green was assigned to the French Escardille 131, Bomber Group 4

The hand-coloured insignia was applied directly to the fabric of Lt Green's plane and is signed by the printer (L Braun, Paris) as well as the artist (Gudin Faucher). It is expected to see bids of around $10,000 and will be joined by an archive of documents relating to Green's military career, including his flight log.

The piece is in good condition considering its history and still sports bullet-holes from a mission where Lt Green was forced to crash land.

We have some superb items of militaria for sale, including a signed photograph from Guy Gibson, the heroic commander of the RAF's Dam Busters.
