![]() Quentin Roosevelt was shot down over eastern France aged just 20 - it is unknown how the twisted fragments of his aircraft were obtained by his French landlady |
Laurent Mirouze, a spokesperson for Aiolfi & Partners, the auction house overseeing the sale, asserts that although the twisted fragments possess little "visual value", they remain "very moving".
Formerly the property of Quentin's French landlady, the aircraft fragments remained in her family, and are offered from the estate of her descendents.
Mirouze comments: "We don't know how the landlady got hold of the fragments and if it was friends of Quentin Roosevelt or soldiers who gave them to her."
The fragments carry a €250 ($335) reserve, which, going by previous sales results, is highly likely to be met.
