The collection is expected to raise more than $500,000 for charity at the request of Mr Maren, who died aged 70 in August 2012.
One of the most poignant lots included in the sale is the Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal that was awarded to Technical Sergeant Joseph Elzie Mix after he was killed in action during Operation Tidal Wave in the second world war.
The posthumously awarded DSC group was presented to mix after a long and hazardous attack against a vital enemy oil installation at low altitude.
Flying through one of the most heavily defended areas of Europe, Mix stayed at his guns, despite his aircraft being severely damaged and gasoline pouring from the fuel tanks. The medals are valued at £600-900 ($917-1,376).
