As we've reported, Greg Martin's auction house is holding a Fine Collectible Firearms and Militaria Auction next week.
Among the many fine examples are an ultra rare cased presentation Model 1902 Luger Semi-Automatic Carbine by DWM; a unique Model 1902 American Eagle Cartridge-Counter Luger; a rare Georg Luger Model 1902 Prototype Pistol; and a scarce Model 1907 .45 calibre Luger, one of fewer than 25 manufactured.
Also appearing in the sale will be a Custom Engraved and Gold-Plated Colt Bisley Single Action Revolver. Bearing medium relief Germanic scroll engraved with gold plating, and two-piece elephant ivory grips. It comes in its mahogany case lined in dusty rose-coloured pool table grade felt.
The panel on the backstrap is blank for future owner's name or initial. The quality of engraving is excellent. It was manufactured in 1898, making this a true antique. In excellent condition it is listed at $4,500 - $6,500.
Perhaps the most exciting lot however is a Field Officer's Senior Presentation Grade Sword, by repute once belonging to Union General and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Adelbert Ames.
It boasts a 32" slightly curved blade, with single narrow fullers, finely etched with floral scrolls, panoplies of arms and Federal eagle patriotic motifs with gold-washed background.
At the hilt is a deluxe silver-plated brass faux wire-wrapped grip with beaded and rouletted back edge. The whole slips into an original deluxe black rayskin covered wooden scabbard with silver-plated pierced mounts, having delicate floral scrolled panels and two ring mounts.
By tradition, the sword was donated to the Post by Congressional Medal of Honor recipient and Union General Adelbert Ames in 1914. Ames was the first colonel of the famed 20th Maine Infantry, famous for Joshua Chamberlain's 20th Maine stand at Gettysburg's Little Round Top.
Ames was the last surviving general officer of the Civil War, dying in Ormond, Florida in 1933. The Bosworth Hall collection was dispersed in the 1960s when the building was demolished to erect a parking lot.
It was sold together with letter of provenance from a previous owner, attesting to the sword's history and is expected to bring $8,000-12,000 in Greg Martin's auction which takes place on January 19.
