A rare original copy of Alfred Leete's iconic "Lord Kitchener Wants You" poster will appear with a £10,000-15,000 ($16,824-25,236) estimate at Onslows Auctioneers in the UK on July 9.
![]() Leete's Lord Kitchener Wants You is one of the most recognisable symbols of the first world war |
The lot is one of only four surviving examples. The reason for its scarcity when compared with other examples from the Great War is thought to be the result of low printing numbers.
Leete's design proved enormously effective in that it dramatically increased enlistment figures when it was released in 1914.
It has since become one of the most recognisable symbols of the conflict.
