A kazari-dachi presentation sword scabbard will cross the block in a sale of Japanese and Korean art at Bonhams New York on September 14.
It's valued at $80,000-100,000.
The piece was created for a member of the powerful Yamanouchi clan in the early 17th century and features an elaborate design in gold hiramaki-e lacquer.
The family's oak leak crest is displayed in enamel.
The Yamanouchi was a branch of the Usuegi family, a samurai clan that was at the peak of its influence from the 14th to 17th century.
