A chunk of space rock from the famed group of Campo Del Cielo meteorites is among the leading lots at Affiliated Auctions' sale this weekend.
The 59lb nickel iron rock is one of many meteorites discovered by the Spanish at Campo del Cielo in modern day Argentina in 1576. It has a top end estimate of $4,000 and goes under the hammer on Sunday.
The rock comes with a certificate of approval from the Southwest Meteorite Laboratory, details of the elements found in the meteorite as well as photographs of the X-ray fluorescence testing conducted on it.
Campo del Cielo, or Field of the Sky, has provided some notable sales down the years for space investors, including a 161kg piece which sold at Bonhams for $91,375 in 2006.

The largest crater at the site measures 78 by 65 metres. It is thought the meteorites fell to earth between 6,000 and 4,000 years ago.
Other notable lots at this weekend's event include a pair of 1949 Colt .31 revolvers valued at $1,800-$2,400 and a black wool hat worn by a guard of Tsar Nicholas II. It has a high end estimate of $5,000.
