Archives International Auctions and Dr Robert Schwartz held its sale of the American Bank Note Archives Auction Series, Part V in Englewood, New Jersey, between April 15-16.
Total prices for the 1,222 sold notaphilic lots realised $635,500, including 18% buyer's premium.
Many of the sale's highlights came from the China section, which proved to be extremely popular and provoked fierce competitions between bidders (with 82% of the lots eventually selling).
Among these, the well-known 14th Century "Ming" note sold to a lucky book bidder for $7,500.
Meanwhile, an extremely rare Bank of China, 1918 branch variety from Harbin hammered for an impressive $2,300 over a high estimate of $800.

A specimen $50 Central Bank of China unlisted "Mei Luk" location hammered for $1,500. Elsewhere, a $500 Hong Kong & Shanghai banknote 1930 specimen from Hong Kong hammered for $2,600.
Most world notes in the auction did well, according to Dr Schwartz, including Hawaii which was represented by three different Kingdom of Hawaii Silver Certificate of Deposit banknote proofs.
Among these, the $500 King of Hawaiian banknotes, P-5p, hammered for $11,500 to a happy bidder.
Iran also proved extremely popular with seven out of eight Imperial Bank of Persia Bradbury specimens selling for between $2,500-8,500.
All prices are shown minus 18% buyer's premium. Archives International Auctions and Dr Robert Schwartz next auction is mooted to take place between October-November later this year.
