A US 1879 Flowing Hair Stella $4 proof is to star in Bonhams' Coins and Medals auction in Los Angeles on September 6.

It's expected to make around $50,000-60,000.
The coin has a lower estimate than other Stellas as it displays signs of tooling, meaning one of its former owners has attempted to remove blemishes, and polishing.
While this will make it unappealing to high-level collectors, others may jump at the chance to get a classic rarity for a bargain price.
