A silver 1643 Charles I Declaration pound coin has sold for £56,120 ($82,689) at Dukes in Dorchester, UK on March 12 the Oxford Times reports.
The lot was minted in Oxford (where the court moved after London fell to the anti-royalists) at the outset of the English civil war.

Timothy Medhurst, auctioneer at Duke's, told the publication: "It's one of rarest coins I've handled and it was an honour to do so.
"It's from a very important period of history - the English Civil War - and there's been a lot of interest worldwide in this coin.
"It was bought by someone in the room for £56,120 - there were many other bidders by phone as well."
