'Persuaders' Aston Martin DBS offered in first auction at $915,500

The Aston Martin DBS seen in the hit 1970s TV show The Persuaders has been announced as one of the highlights of Bonhams' Aston Martin Works Sale in May.

The Persuaders Aston Martin DBS
The Persuaders was the most expensive TV show ever produced at the time, with this special Aston Martin and a Ferrari Dino adding to the bill

The annual sale takes place at the famous Newport Pagnell, UK plant on May 17, offering some of the finest Aston Martin models. The DBS, signed by The Persuaders stars Roger Moore and Tony Curtis under the boot lid, holds an estimate of £350,000-550,000 ($582,512-915,376).

The standard six-cylinder model was produced specifically for Roger Moore's character, Lord Brett Sinclair, with Aston Martin even providing a works mechanic throughout the production. Despite its six-cylinder engine, it is fitted with V8 badges, wheels and hubs in the rare Bahama Yellow colour.

The show lasted just 24 episodes before Roger Moore was whisked off to play James Bond

The Persuaders follows Danny Wilde and Lord Brett Sinclair, who team up to solve cases that cannot be resolved by the courts. Once described as "the last major entry in the cycle of adventure series that began eleven years earlier with Danger Man in 1960", it was the most expensive TV show ever filmed at the time.

However, after just 24 episodes, Sir Roger Moore was called upon to star as James Bond and the series was cut short.

The Aston Martin has had five private owners since filming finished, with one owner commissioning a full and exact restoration to original condition from Aston Martin itself. It has been serviced every year since 1997 by Aston Martin Works engineers.

The DBS was also one of 49 cars worldwide that were invited to take part in the 2013 Concorse d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy, as well as appearing at the London 2011 and 2013 Salon Prive.

This is the first time the care has appeared for public sale it its 44-year history.

Tony Curtis' Danny Wilde drives a Ferrari Dino 246 GT in the series, believed to be in a private collection in Italy.
