Nigerian President's Rolls Royce to auction at €90k

In a week in which a former South African President celebrated the 20th anniversary of his freedom, French auctioneer ARTCURIAL is offering a piece of automotive memorabilia from neighbouring Nigeria.

The Paris auction house will hold a sale of classic and racing cars and automobilia this weekend (February 14).

Among the star lots is a true classic of British automotive history: a Rolls Royce Phantom V from 1960.

Chassis number #5AT96 is a four door saloon with a rear compartment designed and fitted to provide an exceptional level of luxury.

Bearing the arms of the Republic of Nigeria is a central cabinet with inlaid woodwork, facing the passengers. Beside it is a port cabinet and, to its right, a whisky cabinet.

The arms of Nigeria are also painted on the doors.


The car was delivered to Nigerian Prime Minister Prime Minister, Alhaji Sir
Aboubakar Tatawa Balewa in 1960


According to ARTCURIAL, this Phantom V was originally delivered knew to the Republic of Nigeria in 1960 to be used by the Prime Minister, Alhaji Sir Aboubakar Tatawa Balewa.

The historic car has been in France since 1994.

Finished in dark blue with superb beige leather upholstery and fitted with A/C and a cruise control system, this road tested vintage automobile has 29,000 miles on the clock and is in superb condition throughout.

It will auction with an estimate of €70,000-90,000.

ARTCURIAL's sale will take place at the Palais des Congrès in Paris.

After winning the top honour at last year's car show the Hilton Head Concours d'Elegance, this Sunday's sale promises another good day for Rolls-Royce collectors.
