Greek government-owned Rolls Royce to auction for $133,000

A specially equipped, Greek government-owned Rolls Royce Silver Shadow is to auction at Coys on June 15.

Estimated to be worth €100,000 ($133,169), the custom-fitted Rolls Royce was commissioned in 1970 and delivered in 1971. The car transported Greek prime minister Konstantinos Karamanlis (1907-1998) to and from official functions.

Another Greek asset for sale. Will the former Greek PM’s wheels make €100,000 ($133,169) in Athens?

Karamanlis, four-time prime minister and two-time president of the Third Hellenic Republic, was a towering political figure during the second half of the 20th century, and the prestigious automobile reflects his status as the nation's pre-eminent statesman.

The auction, which is also to feature a stunning 1961 Alpha Romeo Spider Touring (estimated at €40,000/$53,304) and pre-world war two custom Mercury Westergard (estimated at €100,000/$133,169), takes place in Athens, Greece.
