'First ever' Allard J2X races into H&H's UK classic cars auction

H&H's upcoming classic cars sale on February 26 will be held at Stoneleigh Park, Stoneleigh, UK and boasts a bona fide legend of British racing.

This right-hand drive 1951 Allard J2X (chassis number J2X2138, registration MGT 850) happens to be the very first one of its kind ever produced. It was registered 'MGT 850' on September 6th 1951.

It is finished in British Racing Green with black trim, black wire wheels and sported a pair of aero screens - all original. According to the Allard register, a total of 83 J2Xs were built from 1949-53.

The right-hand drive 1951 Allard J2X (estimate: £250,000-325,000)

Beneath the bonnet is a Mercury flathead V8 equipped with the optional Ardun OHV conversion and featured a close-ratio three-speed gearbox. And this car has surely been put through its paces...

Its first owner was a test pilot for Supermarine, G.P. La Trobe Shea-Simonds. He launched the car's motorsport career at the Birkett Six-Hour Team Relay meeting, Silverstone, in August 1952 - one of many races and hill-climbs in which it has participated.

The car's sixth owner and seller came into possession MGT 850 in 1981. Needless to say, this car will surely turn heads when it rolls into Stoneleigh with a £250,000-325,000 estimate later this month.
