The right to own the first 2013 SRT Viper off the production line is worth $300,000
The right to own the first 2013 SRT Viper was auctioned off for charity in the US over the weekend.
The stunning looking V10 supercar, which has not yet been built, sold for $300,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Orange County auction on June 24, to raise money for the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.

It goes to show that it's not just the classic cars that can sell for large sums at auction. A Ferrari 599XX Evoluzione recently soldfor 1.4m ($1.8m) to raise funds for the victims of last month's earthquakes in Italy, while the rights for the first 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition made $700,000 at Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale sale in January.
The 2013 SRT Viper will feature an 8.4 litre V10 engine, capable of producing 640 horsepower.
The auction is a reminder of the importance that collectors attach to owning "the first", whether it is the first vehicle off the production line or the first in a limited run of photographic prints by a leading name.
There was, of course, much to excite the classic car enthusiast at the three-day sale. A 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 fastback sold for $253,000, while a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Ram Air convertible made $154,000.
The classic car market as a whole remains promising for investors, despite a slight downturn during May. The HAGI Top 50 Index, the Historic Auto Group's price index of leading classic cars, is up 5.69% since January.
