A 1958 FMR Tg500 "Tiger" has set the world record for a microcar, at the auction of Bruce Weiner's Microcar Museum.
The mini Messerschmitt sold after fierce competition resulted in an outstanding final bid of $322,500. The Tg500 is the rarest of all Messerschmitts, and holds the title of the fastest ever built with a staggering top speed of 78 mph.

The sale, which was held February 15-16, saw strong bids all around as collectors of the tiny motors gathered for a rare specialist sale. Highlighting the first day of sales was an extremely rare Coca-Cola Goggomobil TL-400, which sold for $125,000.
The FMR Tg500 is based on Messerschmitt's successful KR200, created shortly after FMR took over production of the KR200 in 1956. A fantastic example of the KR200, which was formerly owned by American circus entertainer Vic Hyde, sold at the auction for an impressive $115,000, making a 109% increase on its $55,000 high estimate.

Bringing the second highest bids of the sale was the ingenious 1951 Reyonnah, which was created as a result of manufacturing restrictions in post-war France. The car, whose front wheels tuck underneath the body to minimise its size, sold for $184,000.
