Alfa Romeo 6c 1750 headlines Bonhams' Scottsdale auction

Bonhams has announced that an exceptional example of the Alfa Romeo 6c 1750 has been consigned to its Scottsdale auction on January 16.

Alfa Romeo 6c 1750
Scottsdale is one of the world's top motoring events, where auction houses bring out their best consignments

Described as "one of the most desirable automobiles of its era", the 1931 Alfa Romeo was delivered new to gentleman driver and aviator Baron Philippe de Gunzbourg, and was used as his daily transport in the same period that he and Luigi Chinetti drove an Alfa Romeo 8c to second place in the 1933 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The car was discovered in a French barn in 2007, retaining its original Zagato bodywork and original drivetrain components.

It has since undergone a meticulous restoration by renowned specialist Stephen Babinsky of Automotive Restorations, which has earned it an invite to the Prebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Amelia Island Concours, Concorse d'Eleganza Villa d'Esta and the 2013 Mille Miglia.

The Alfa Romeo 6c 1750 is a more powerful version of the 1500 cc model of 1925. Most were sold as rolling chassis and bodied separately, with Zagato one of the most desirable coachbuilders. In 1929, the 6c won every event that it was entered into, including grand prix in Belgium, Spain, Tunis and Monza, as well as the Mille Miglia.

The example at auction will be on display at Bonhams' Madison Avenue showrooms from December 9-13, joined by a Figoni & Falaschi-bodied 1947 Bentley Mk VI Coupe, and a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupe.
