The beautiful looking silver machine came in comfortably within estimate with a £47,400 performance.
The right-hand drive Merc was completely restored in 1999, which although no doubt improving its looks, may have put a dent in its appeal among classic car collectors, who love to see original parts and paintwork on a vehicle.

But with just 56,430 miles on the clock, this is a car that has plenty of life left in it.
One collector also snapped up a rarely seen 1961 Alvis TD21 for £31,080, just over its high end estimate.
The British sports cars were made between 1958 and 1963 and are a sometimes forgotten but undoubtedly important piece of British motoring history.
This model had 82,000 miles on the clock and just four previous owners.
There were a number a shocks at the auction, with a much hyped 1960 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Ponton Cabriolet failing to sell.
Just 17 right-hand drive 220SE convertibles were brought to Britain, making these models extremely sought after, although not enough for a collector to pay the £85,000 low end estimate.

A 1955 Jaguar XK140 Roadster, valued at between £120,00-140,000, also failed to find a home.
It is not the end of the road for these two though as we're sure they will appear again on the market soon. Who knows, if the right collectors are bidding next time, they could easily meet their estimates from this sale.
