Nicknamed Hell's Chariot, it features distinctive black paintwork with flame highlights.
It's driven by Craterface (Dennis C Stewart) against Danny Zuko (John Travolta) in the climactic drag race at the film's finale.
The lot is one of the most important movie cars ever to come up for auction and is likely to prompt frenzied bidding when it crosses the block.
A dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in a pivotal scene of Something's Got to Give, her final (unfinished) film, is valued at $300,000-400,000.
Monroe was fired from the production in June 1962, just a few weeks after filming began, after repeatedly calling in sick. She would be found dead in August.
We have a fascinating selection of Monroe memorabilia for sale, including this autographed photograph by Richard Avedon.
Other lots on offer include a Harley-Davidson motorbike personally owned by movie star Marlon Brando, which is expected to make $200,000-400,000.
