A 1936 Ford Model 48 Custom Cabriolet beat its $275,000 estimate by 44% to take the plaudits at RM Auctions' Dingman Collection sale.
Featuring coachwork by German firm Glaser, the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance class winner sold for $396,000 at the New Hampshire sale on June 9-10.

Glaser was famed as the high-end coachbuilder for European Fords, a key factor in helping the vehicle to its impressive showing. The price was also boosted by the thorough restoration work carried out on the car by Michael Dingman.
The collection was a lifetime "labour of love" for the former Ford Motor Company director Dingman, and Ford collectors found it impossible to resist.
A 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Sportsman Convertible sold for $253,000, comfortably within estimate, while a 1939 Ford Deluxe Station Wagon made $247,500, 65% above the $150,000 valuation.
"Michael Dingman is one of the most dedicated and passionate collectors I've ever known," commented auction house director Mike Fairbairn.
"In addition, his incredibly high standards have resulted in the finest Ford restorations ever seen."
The first 2005 Ford GT off the production line, presented to Dingman as a reward for his 21 years with the company, sold for $242,000.
Away from the Fords, there were strong results for a 1938 Lincoln-Zephyr Coupe, which made $330,000, and a 1939 Lincoln-Zephyr Convertible Coupe, which sold for $269,500.
