1934 Lancia Augusta March Special Tourer among highlights at RM Auctions

A 1934 Lancia Augusta March Special Tourer is among the top lots of RM Auctions' Hersey sale in Pennsylvania on October 9-10, with a valuation of $300,000-400,000.

The 9th Duke of Richmond, Frederick Charles Gordon-Lennox (aka Freddie Richmond), designed the striking coachwork in 1934.

It attracted favourable attention in the press at the time, with an editorial in the Motor describing it as "a car of unusual interest…designed with a view to performance and efficiency, as well as appearance; a characteristic of March coachwork…

"Lord March's own racing experience has been drawn upon in evolving a thoroughly efficient model."

The lot is thought to be the only example in the United States and has appeared at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in the past, making it likely it will meet with a high level of interest from bidders.

Earlier this year, the last known Lancia Fulvia Spider F&M sold for £227,000 ($370,872) in a Coys sale at the Birmingham NEC.

A 1935 Auburn Eight Supercharged Cabriolet is expected to make $150,000-200,000.

Auburn was founded in 1900 and quickly built a reputation for its high-end tourers. It was forced to fold in 1935 as the Depression began to bite.
