1927 Bentley speed tourer up 50% on valuation at Bonhams

A 1927 Bentley 3-litre speed model tourer made £225,000 ($378,315) at Bonhams' April 28 collector cars auction in Hendon, UK.

The classic vehicle was valued at £150,000 ($249,600).

The 3-litre speed model tourer was the first ever produced by Bentley

First made in 1919, the 3-litre speed model tourer was the first car ever produced by the fledgling marque, which initially operated out of a garage on Baker Street in London (the home of Sherlock Holmes).

Within two years, the chassis was made available to custom coachbuilders, resulting in the exemplary example featured in the sale, which was built by maker Vanden Plas.

The model was enormously successful as a racer and went on to achieve major victories at Le Mans during the 1920s.

A 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage Sports Saloon was another highlight of the sale, selling for £197,500 ($332,076).

Around 2,000 DB6s were produced between 1965 and 1971.

The model is renowned for its exceptional balance and control at high speeds, and remains the most affordable example of the DB series despite its superiority in handling and specifications.

A 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo SE "Flat Nose" Cabriolet also performed well, making £91,100 ($153,175).

The model features a luxurious interior alongside its turbocharged engine, capable of achieving speeds of up to 160mph.  In addition, it was the fastest accelerating road car of its era.
