The contents of Trelissick House, including a rare Chinese vase anticipated to make in excess of £100,000 ($155,609), are to auction at Bonhams London on July 23-24.

Ceramic expert Colin Sheaf explains: "This vase would have been made in Jingdezhen, China's unique porcelain producing city in Jiangxi Province, where for centuries China's most glittering ceramics were created by master potters for display and daily use at the Imperial court in Beijing's mysterious, overpowering, lavishly decorated Forbidden City."

The neo-classical Trelissick House near Truro, Cornwall, was the one-time residence of eminent collector Leonard Daneham Cunliffe.

Deputy Governor of the Bank of England and co-founder of the Cunliffe Brothers merchant bank, Cunliffe's estate, including his extensive and valuable collection, passed into the hands of his step-daughter, Ida Copeland, following his death.

In April, an Ottoman bottle from the renowned pottery centre of Iznik that originated from Cunliffe's collection set the world record for an object of its kind.  

Tressilick House has remained the family home of the Copelands ever since. Ida's grandson William Copeland and his family live there today.

Copeland comments: "We have been the guardians of these fine works for a number of years…it is time to pass them on for others to enjoy."

Bonhams' Roger Tappin adds: "We are delighted to have secured the sale of the contents of Tressilick House, the repository of so many wonderful art works over the years. The house is synonymous with Cornwall and this sale will be a landmark event of 2013."

Tappin concludes that the onsite auction will give those who have loved and visited the house over the years a chance to bid on "a piece of Cornish history".
