A series of three "unusual" hybrid works from LS Lowry and Harold Riley will sell at the top of Bonhams' Modern British and Irish Art sale, which will be held on November 20 in London.

The works were created jointly by the two artist friends, and acquired directly from Harold Riley by Dave Sexton, 1970s football manager of clubs such as Queens Park Rangers, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Bonhams described the co-operative as "rather like two footballers passing the ball back and forth between them as they move forward". adding, "these works have the charm and interest of an association of two artists engaged in the same game."

Leading bids will be a work entitled Street Scene, an oil on board composition that is expected to sell for £30,000-50,000 ($48,252-80,420). Street scene with clocktower, a 1961 work in graphite, is valued at £8,000-12,000 ($12,867-19,300), while Three figures with ball, in oilstick and pencil, will sell for £5,000-7,000 ($8,042-11,258).

The connection with Dave Sexton is important, as Harold Riley has been a talented young footballer but rejected a career in the sport in favour of his art. Football continued to be a major influence throughout Riley's career.

Another major LS Lowry work, Steps at Wick, will feature in the Bonhams auction. Offered for the first time in more than 20 years, the work holds an £800,000 ($1.2m) high estimate.
