Sylvester Stallone's stunning paintings auction at Christie's in New York

Hollywood and the high-end art markets will collide at Christie's upcoming October 12 sale of Orientalist, Sporting and Maritime Paintings in New York.

Among the sale's star lots will be four works owned by Sylvester Stallone. Highlighting the group is the stunning O Salutaris Hostia (estimated at $30,000-50,000) by George Wolliscroft Rhead.

O Salutaris Hostia (estimated at $30,000-50,000) by George Wolliscroft Rhead

A painter, etcher, and designer of stained glass and ceramics, Rhead was a central figure of the English Arts and Crafts Movement that arose from the Pre-Raphaelites.

Also for sale is Gustave Dore's La famille du saltimbanque: l'enfant blessé, a haunting example of social realism which is among the most important works from the artist to come to the auction market in 15 years.

By combining Romanticism's drama with Realism's social commentary and what would become Symbolism's spiritualism, Doré produced works of startling beauty and raw emotion that are distinctly his own.

Dore's renowned Musée d'Art Roger-Quilliot in Clermont-Ferrand

Being one of Dore's most renowned compositions, La famille du saltimbanque: l'enfant blessé inspired him to produce an almost identical work 20 years later which now hangs in the Musée d'Art Roger-Quilliot in Clermont-Ferrand.

This piece, and its later version, in the worlds of Christie's "exemplify Doré's ability to render the contemporary life of the urban poor with both poignant realism and dreamlike fantasy."

The work will appear with a $50,000-70,000 estimate.
