Pablo Picasso's Madoura pottery proved its popularity at Sotheby's on March 19, as the auction house presented 100 such ceramics from a private collection.

The star of the show was Vase gros oiseau vert, created at the Madoura, France pottery studio in 1960 and numbered 25/25, which sold 202.8% above its £35,000 estimate to bring £104,500 ($157,829). The collection brought £1.4m ($2.2m), with all 100 items sold and 94% selling above estimate.
Madoura pottery provides a fantastic and often affordable option for those wishing to own Picasso's work. It has seen renewed popularity at auction since Christie's June 2012 auction of The Madoura Collection, which set the world record for Picasso's ceramics at £735,650 ($1.1m).
