Indian and Islamic rare art works from Dr Leach Collection sell in London

The late Dr Linda York Leach (1942-2006) was a leading Mughal scholar whose devotion to Islam works of art lead to her amassing a large and impressive collection of works.

As Islamic art continues to draw more and more collectors to the world's top auctions, Dr Leach's artworks are now appearing for sale in London.

The "Islamic and Indian sale" will take place on April 24. Particularly of note are the sale's Indian miniature paintings - general interest in which has grown significantly in the last 50 years.

Dr Leach played a central role in reinvigorating the popularity of these artworks, thanks to her status among the leading academics in the field of Indian miniature painting.

Pieces from the Rajput schools of Indian miniatures were among the most prominent in Dr Leach's collection. These are well-presented in the upcoming auction, with 30 pieces up for sale.

Among the notable of these is a depiction of two early-19th century rulers of Jodhpur, each rendered in fiery orange. The duo are seated in conversation.

This piece alone is estimated at £3,000-4,000. Expect it to provoke much conversation among eager collectors when it auctions in London this April.
