An LA auction house is set to host some of the biggest names in modern art in the sale of an important Santa Barbara collection, including David Hockney and Roy Lichtenstein.
Pieces by some of the world's most renowned artists, past and present, will feature in the upcoming auction, which is to be held on May 6, 2012. Online bidding has already begun, with George Rickey's Tidal IV expected to be a highlight.
The kinetic sculpture by the artist was a special commission from the consignor of the collection. Made from stainless steel the piece is incised "Rickey 1962". An estimate of $100,000-150,000 has been set for the unique piece, which can be seen with documentation and notes from the artist.
Roy Lichtenstein's Thunderbolt will also appear in the auction, estimated at $80,000-120,000. The felt banner is numbered 11 of 20 and was created by the Betsy Ross Flag and Banner Co., which produced early designs for the US flag.

An intimate and characteristic self portrait from Chuck Close will also lead sales in LA. The artist's trademark photorealistic style has been employed with superb results in this tapestry. A hyper-real and evocative portrayal of the artist, it is expected to bring between $100,000 and $150,000.
A watercolour from influential British artist David Hockney is expected to achieve $40,000-$60,000. Following the success of Hockney's Royal Academy show in London in the early part of 2012, Paul Fraser Collectibles expects this piece to exceed estimates. The work is one of several lots from Hockney in the sale.
We currently have a David Hockney signed copy of the BMW Art Car book in stock, a project which the artist worked on with other legendary artists such as Andy Warhol, Lichtenstein and Jeff Koons.
These distinctive lots will be joined by works from Picasso, Warhol and Karl Benjamin as well as a host of top names in the art world. Paul Fraser Collectibles has this signed Picasso postcard in stock for collectors of the beloved artist.
