Hispano-Flemish baroque cabinet hammers for $149,000

A Hispano-Flemish baroque cabinet has sold for $149,000 at Bonhams' January 23 Fine American and European Furniture auction in New York.

The piece is made from rosewood and features images from the story of Don Quixote produced in bone and tortoiseshell. It dates to the latter half of the 19th century.

The Hispano-Flemish movement began in the 15th century in Spain, and merged Iberian architectural and artistic styles with those of the Netherlands. It is characterised by dark colours and heavily gilded ornamentation.
