Artworks from World War One depicting dogfights, aircraft and portraits of aviators are going under the hammer at Bonhams and Butterfields on November 15.
The paintings will appear among more than 450 lots, also including American and European firearms and weapons, militaria and a selection of sporting guns.

Many of the works were commissioned by the American, French and German governments and include noted artists like Henri Farre.
Farre was a pilot and observer who was appointed by French authorities to create artworks based on his experiences. His piece Downed Fokker is expected to bring $5,000-8,000.
Another artist of note is Claus Bergen, who was appointed Marine Painter to Kaiser Wilhelm in 1914. His work entitled Von Richthofen's Flying Circus carries an $8,000-12,000 estimate.

Other highlights in the sale will include a number of military paintings by Francois Flameng, many of which were donated to the Musee De l'Armee in Paris.
Flameng's works for sale include Devant Mondidier, estimated at $10,000-15,000, depicting a French anti-aircraft battery in action.
