Cage Grid I by Gerhard Richter is valued at £350,000-450,000 ($578,200-743,400) ahead of Christie's post war and contemporary art day sale.

The auction will take place in London on February 14.

The giclee print reworks the last painting in Richter's Cage series, a cycle of six works inspired by the music of the modernist composer John Cage.

The image has been split into 16 identical squares mounted on aluminium and arranged in a grid pattern, and is numbered 15 of an edition of 16.

Work by Richter has proved extremely popular among collectors in recent years, and this trend looks set to continue with an upcoming series of sales.

These include Abstraktes Bild 776-1 (Abstract Painting), which will auction at Sotheby's London on February 10 with a £2.2m ($3.6m) estimate, and a major work titled Wand that will feature in the same sale with a valuation of £15m ($25m).

An untitled work by Cy Twombly (1928-2011) will also feature in the day sale with a £300,000-400,000 ($495,600-660,800) estimate.

A divisive artist, Twombly's work is defined by a deeply symbolic set of symbols and scrawls that coalesce in exquisitely tangled compositions of deceptive complexity.

The work dates to 1958, the year after his move to Rome - an event that led to the production of a series of works that draw from the city's densely layered history.
