The work is numbered 15 of an edition of 16

The giclee print reworks the final painting in the artist's series inspired by the music of modernist composer John Cage.

The prints are mounted on aluminium, split into 16 identical squares and displayed in a grid pattern. The work is numbered 15 of an edition of 16.

Richter's work has proven enormously popular among collectors of late, with a number of high profile sales in London cementing his reputation as one of the most bankable contemporary artists.

Wand (1994) achieved £17.4m ($28.7m) at Sotheby's recent contemporary art evening sale, while a work from his Abstraktes Bild series made £19.5m ($32.4m) at Christie's post war and contemporary evening auction.

Other pieces that performed well included Lucio Fontana's Concetto Spaziale, Atteste, a significant work from the pioneering artist that achieved £446,500 ($743,423) - an increase of 197.6% on its £150,000 ($249,000) estimate.

A day sale at Sotheby's on February 14 saw another work by Fontana achieve £698,500 ($1.1m).
