Edvard Munch's Two Human Beings to make $597,000 at Sotheby's?

A rare woodcut print of Edvard Munch's Two Human Beings (The Lonely Ones) is estimated to make £250,000-350,000 ($426,550-597,170) at Sotheby's.

Edvard Munch Figures
Edvard Munch regularly explored themes of isolation and loneliness

The lot will auction as part of the Prints and Multiples sale in London on September 16.

The piece is based on a painting Munch produced in the early 1890s and shows two figures gazing across a bleak landscape.

The theme is typical of the artist, who is best known for his work exploring themes of isolation and existential dread.

In March last year a copy of Two Human Beings sold for £986,500 ($1.5m) at Sotheby's London.

Andy Warhol's $ (I) is estimated to make £120,000-180,000 ($204,744-307,116).

The piece consists of six screenprints showing the dollar symbol in a variety of colours and typefaces. It was executed in 1982, five years before his death.

At the time, he was regularly criticised in the arts press for producing overly commercial work that traded off his reputation - although others contend that this perfectly reflected the "greed is good" ethos of the decade.

The sale will include a selection of work from a range of other artists, including Roy Lichtenstein and Marc Chagall.
