A rare and stylistically typical print by the world's most valuable artist at auction, Edvard Munch, sold with a 181.9% increase on its £350,000 ($528,150) top estimate at Sotheby's London on March 19.

Two Human Beings (The Lonely Ones) was printed circa 1914-17 on thick wove paper

The compelling woodcut brought £986,500 ($1.5m) - testament to the enduring popularity of works by Munch among eminent and influential collectors. The dramatic print features two figures looking out across a desolate landscape.

Munch's indomitable oil on canvas, The Scream, currently holds the world record for most valuable painting ever sold at auction, having made $119.9m at Sotheby's in May 2012.

Andy Warhol's Endangered Species prints also put in a strong performance at yesterday's sale, selling with a 28.8% increase on their £300,000 ($453,877) top estimate, for £386,500 ($584,710).
