A 1944 canvas entitled The Mixer Men by late British artist Joan Eardley has sold for £32,000 ($48,672) at historic Edinburgh auction house Lyon & Turnbull.

The Mixer Men hails from Eardley's student period, which she spent in Glasgow, studying drawing and painting at the Glasgow School of Art.
Her talent as an artist was recognised early in her career, which was tragically cut short by cancer in 1963, Eardley aged just 42.
The present large scale oil on canvas was exhibited "on the line" at the Royal Glasgow Institute the year it was painted - a rare honour for a recent graduate.
Eardley's work has previously commanded similar sums at auction. In August 2008, two Eardley pastel drawings made £85,250 ($128,359) and £35,450 ($48,859), respectively.
