Hirst is one of the most succesful British artists of his generation

The paintings, Pyronin Y (2005) and Oleoylsarcosine (2008), are worth £15,000 ($24,537) and £18,000 ($29,444), respectively, and were stolen from the Exhibitionist Gallery early on Monday morning (December 9) by a suspect who made off in a car.

The enormous value of the collectibles market has always presented an attractive target for thieves. Last year, a number of English museums were targeted in a spate of burglaries.
