Bonhams Contemporary Art sale has been highlighted by the sale of two important artworks from China's Chu Teh-Chun.

Taking place in London on July 27, the sale saw the artist's Absraction neige III sell for £289,250 ($442,275), making a 15.7% increase on its £250,000 high estimate.
Animations lointaines (1989) followed, bringing a 16.8% increase on its £150,000 high estimate at £175,250 ($267,974).

Chu Teh-Chun (born 1920) was originally trained in Chinese watercolour painting. However, having spent much of his life in Paris, his work now combines the traditional techniques of his own country with European oil painting.
The results is a fusion of typical Song dynasty landscape style with a sense of 20th century abstraction.
Abstraction neige III (1985) is part of a small series of work that Chu created in the mid to late 1980s. The rare works, considered some of his most desirable, are inspired by a snowstorm that the artist encountered while taking a journey from Paris to Geneva.
