Chairman Mao photograph up 682% on estimate in Beijing

A photograph of the former Chinese leader Chairman Mao has sold with superb results at a Beijing auction house.

Mao Zedong collectibles fare much worse at auction outside of China, despite Western demand for Chinese collectibles

The photograph was estimated at up to $8,000, but soon beat its valuation to realise $62,958 - a 682% increase.

It shows Mao Zedong relaxing in a wicker chair, and was taken by his wife, Jiang Qing, during the "cultural revolution" of 1966-1976.

The auction demonstrates the importance of selling your collectibles to the correct market, with similar sales of Mao memorabilia seeing lacklustre results in the UK and Europe.

Paul Fraser Collectibles can help you find that market, using the full force of our 250 years' combined experience. Call +44 (0)117 933 9500 or email info@paulfrasercollectibles.com.
