Brollo collection of Diego Giacometti to sell at Artcurial

Artcurial is to auction the Brollo collection, which consists of a number of works by Diego Giacometti, in Paris on September 14.

Chief among the highlights will be a pair of "hairdresser" stools decorated with mice. They are expected to sell for around $220,000-330,000.

Other highlights include a pair of lion headed armchairs valued at $110,000-160,000.

Giacometti worked mainly in bronze and drew much of his inspiration from the animal kingdom.

Daniel and Elaine Brollo met Diego in Paris shortly after the death of his brother Alberto in 1966. They became good friends, partly because all three hailed from Italy.

Over the years the Brollos acquired a large number of pieces from the artist.

Bruno Jaubert, Artcurial's director of modern art, comments: "To offer such a complete private collection at auction is a real privilege.

"This collection enables us to trace the steps of the artist's work and also observe the relationship he developed with the collector couple in the intimate setting of his atelier.

"The exhibition will highlight the 20 year friendship between Diego Giacometti and Eliane and Daniel Brollo, thanks to the photo report made by their son, Frederic Brollo."

Diego Giacometti's record at auction is $1.7m, set for his Chevreuil, Biche et Bambi table at Doyle New York in 2013.
