Ferdinand Max Bredt's Leisure of the Odalisques is to be sold at a Munich auction later this month.

The sale which will showcase art from old masters and 19th Century works, will feature the seductive oil painting, which is expected to sell for €30,000-40,000 (£24,776-33,055).
Depicting two "odalisques" or chamber maids, the picture is noted for the entrancing gaze of the reclined lady. Odalisques became fantasy figures in Orientalism, of which the Bredt work is considered to be a masterpiece.
While the painting does not have the highest estimate in the auction, it is expected to receive the most interest. Another oil on canvas entitled In a Courtyard, Tunis by Bredt realised £601, 250 at Christie's in 2009, against an estimate of £200,000-£300,000.
Continuing the seductive theme is Franz Stuck's Adam und Eva, a suggestive piece which shows Adam's eyes locked on Eve despite the temptations of the apple and snake. The piece was originally made for Stuck's own house, Villa Stuck in Munich and is estimated at €30,000 (£33,055).
The highest-estimate of the auction goes to Andreas Schelfhout, with Winter Landscape with People on the Ice. The Romantic piece shows one of Schelfhout's famous winter scenes displaying excellent technical ability, for which he became renowned. It is estimated at €50,000-60,000.
