A photograph by Nick Brandt, titled Portrait of Elephant in Dust, Amboseli, will highlight Bonhams' photography sale on October 29 with an estimate of $30,000-35,000.  

Brandt is an environmentalist and photographer working exclusively in Africa who takes black and white photographs of landscapes and animals. Last year his Elephant Drinking portrait achieved $116,257 at Christie's in Paris.

The New York sale will also feature a number of works by acclaimed landscape photographer Ansel Adams (1902-1984). The photographs, which feature identical estimates of $20,000-30,000, includes Moon and Half Dome, Yosemite Park from the photographer's critically lauded Yosemite National Park series.

Adams is best known for his stark black and white photographs of the American west for which he utilised large format cameras, allowing for maximum clarity.

Adams' record price at auction was $609,600 for Moonrise, Hernandez New Mexico at Sotheby's New York in 2006.

Bonhams director of photography, Judith Eurich, commented: "Adams is perhaps the most influential American photographer of all time. His stellar career is beautifully articulated through the various decades represented in this sale".

The auction also features work from photographer Imogen Cunningham, including a rare print from 1925, estimated to make $10,000-15,000.

A photograph of supermodel Helena Christenson by Herb Ritts is valued at $8,000-12,000.
