A work by Bertold Loffter will lead a sale of modernist posters at Swann Auction Galleries on April 24 with a $20,000-30,000 estimate.
The work was created to promote the Wiener Werkstatte's Kunstschau Wein 1908 exhibition in Vienna, which also featured work from Gustav Klimt and Josef Hoffman.

Loffler (1874-1960) was an Austrian artist who joined the Wiener Werkstatte in 1907. The group operated out of a three storey building in Vienna, with different sections of the space dedicated to varying arts and crafts.
Alexander Rodchenko's Dobrolet (1923) carries an identical estimate of $20,000-30,000.

Dobrolet, or the Russian Society of Volunteer Airfleet, was a rare partially public company that operated within the Soviet Union.
Rodchenko (1891-1956) was commissioned to convince the public to invest, to which end he used the catchy slogan: "To All . . . If one is not a shareholder of Dobrolet, one is not a citizen of the USSR. One golden ruble makes everyone a shareholder of Dobrolet."
A relative unknown at the time, Rodchenko went on to become one of the most influential graphic designers of all time. His portrait of Lilya Brik is undoubtedly his best-known image, having been endlessly imitated and parodied.
