A gilt bronze mounted marquetry commode by Francois Linke (1845-1946) is among the standout lots at an upcoming Bonhams furniture auction.

However, the $55,000 high estimate for the piece by the French cabinet maker looks optimistic - a similar example sold for $25,000 in 2007.

It will auction alongside a pair of early 18th century Queen Anne pier mirrors, valued at $18,000, and a pair of mid 18th century Venetian Rococo paint decorated and scagliola consoles, which are expected to make up to $30,000.

Many of the English and Italian pieces at the Fine Furniture and Decorative Arts auction in San Francisco on October 29 come from the estate of Gloria Lowengart.

Items from her San Francisco home appearing at the sale include a range of George III period furniture, including a pair of giltwood girandole mirrors valued at $8,000, and a pair of Venetian Rococo paint decorated armchairs, which have a $6,000 estimate.

Jeffrey Smith, director of Bonhams' furniture and decorative arts department, commented: "This two day event will offer exquisite items from nearly all areas of European connoisseurship, and almost all of these examples have not been on the market in decades."

Also featuring at the sale is a strong collection of Chinese porcelain, including a $25,000-valued Kangxi period (1661-1722) famille enamelled porcelain figural bowl, and a pair of famille rose enamelled porcelain soup plates from the Yongzheng period (1722-1735), which have a $15,000 estimate. Both are expected to sell well, considering the current buoyancy of the Chinese art market.
