Chippendale pie crust table
Recent market trends suggest collectors have lost interest in this style, though the sale proved otherwise

The superb piece features a fine spiral turned urn and shaft, carved knees and sculptural ball and claw feet. With collectors keen to own any item of furniture bearing the illustrious Chippendale name, it sold for $12,870.

Tables similar to the Chippendale piece are listed in Albert Sacks' The Finer Points of Furniture, though the spiral turns and subtly tapered shaft of the present piece set it apart from these typical examples.

Recent market trends show that collectors have been moving away from this style of furniture, though the sale's results showed otherwise.

Pottier & Stymus cabinet
A typically lavish piece from the finest cabinetmakers of 19th century New York

Also starring was a Victorian revival walnut cabinet attributed to New York's Pottier and Stymus, one of the premier cabinetmakers of the late 19th century. A typically lavish piece, it boasts fine inlays with oval bronzes, along with an original circular hand-painted central porcelain medallion. Of the finest quality, it brought $8,435.

Paul Fraser Collectibles has some superlative examples of English furniture for sale, with several exceptionally rare pieces from some of the most revered makers. This Holland & Sons card table would make for a spectacular showpiece, made from Hungarian ash embellished with purpleheart and ebony.
