An Egyptian wooden dish in the form of a woman was the top selling item in Ancient Resource LLC's Ancient Artifacts sale, held on April 6 in California.

The piece sold for $7,000, sitting comfortably within its $6,000-8,000 valuation. Finely carved, it originates from the late New Kingdom period (1292-1075 BC). It was once housed in the San Diego Museum of Man and is in good condition for its age, with minor chipping and repair as is to be expected.
Ancient items such as this are popular collector's pieces, with an ancient Sumerian tablet bringing $10,500 to Antiquities Saleroom in March. On April 24, Christie's will sell a fragment of dodo bone and the egg of an elephant bird.
