A highly prized 17th century violin by Antonioni Stradivari is selling at Ingles & Hayday in London.
The violin is consigned from the collection of the Westdeutsche Landesbank
The piece is known as the Ex-Croall McEwan, in reference to two of its previous owners, and is expected to make £1.3m-2m ($1.6m-2.4m) on March 8.
It's consigned from the collection of the Westdeutsche Landesbank of Düsseldorf.
Like many of the world’s top violins, the lot has been lent to some of the greatest players of all time – including German violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann.
He played it extensively between 1985 and 1990.
More recently it has been played by up and coming German virtuosos Alexander Gilman and Suyoen Kim.
The record for any violin is $16m, set for the Vieuxtemps Guarneri in a private sale in 2012.
