Description

  • A superb Royal family Christmas card signed by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip
  • From 1952, the first year of the Queen's historic reign

Queen Elizabeth II (1926 -) is the Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms.

She married her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (1921 - ) in 1947, and ascended the British throne in 1952.

She remains Britain's longest-reigning monarch, and at 94 she is also the world's oldest living monarch, and the longest-serving female head of state in recorded world history.

This beautiful Christmas card was sent out at Christmas in 1952, 10 months after Elizabeth II had ascended the throne but still six months before her official coronation.

As such, it was the first Christmas card Elizabeth signed as Queen, including the “R” after her signature (which stands for Regina, Latin for Queen).

The family portrait on the card was also the first to include the young Prince Charles, then aged four, and Princess Anne, aged two.

The front cover of the card is blank, save for the Queen's embossed Royal crown crest.

The card is boldly signed by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip on the left-hand inside panel, with the portrait on the right.

This card measures approximately 13 x 8 inches when fully opened, with both the signatures and the portrait on display, making it ideal for framing.

The Christmas card also comes with superb provenance, having been originally presented to a valued employee at Buckingham Palace and passed down through his family for more than 60 years.

A rare and stunning piece of Royal memorabilia.
