Skinner's massive July auction offers perfect way to start your collection...

Boston-based auctioneers Skinner Inc. are selling off a vast collection of items on Saturday July 9, including vases, busts, furniture and paintings as part of their wonderful European Decorative Arts event.

Especially prominent are a range of British, French and Italian pieces which are sure to attract a large number of collectors, because there really does seem to be something for everyone.

One of the standout items, as much for its incredible size as its excellent quality, is this Doulton Lambeth Faience Floor Vase which is a staggering 75 inches tall.

Doulton's huge $30,000 valued vase would light-up any living room

Valued at $20,000-30,000, the lively 1893 English-made piece should rightly attract a lot of interest.

The precise history of the vase is unclear, but what is known is that only a very small number of them were ever produced.

It was Doulton's crowning glory when it was first made, and was also extremely expensive. It is thought that the Gaekwad of Baroda, a member of an important West Indian dynasty, ordered one to be made for $6,000.

Another famous company whose pieces feature heavily in the sale are makers of high quality ceramics, Wedgwood. Having been making products for more than 250 years now, there are obviously a lot of items for collectors to choose from...

Two particularly fine items included are the Wedgwood and Bentley Black Basalt busts, one of Cato and the other of Rousseau, which are valued at between $3,000-5,000 each.

To say these Venetian carved wood acrobats are unique is an understatement

Also made of Black Basalt is a $4,000-6,000 valued Wedgwood vase, depicting a typically classical Greek scene of Pandora. It is the kind of thing that would look great in any museum, or on top of any fireplace for that matter.

The sheer amount of different lots included is just incredible, so there are certainly great opportunities for new collectors or seasoned investors to get involved in this sale.

From another fantastic large vase, this time by makers Minton, estimated to make a total of between $5,000-7,000, to a couple of Venetian carved wood stands shaped like acrobats also valued at $5,000-7,000, this sale is simply astounding.
