Man o’ War’s trainer, the legendary Judge Louis Feustel, gave the shoe to a friend named Edward Buhler.
It’s inscribed: “To my Friend the Judge Louis Feustel trainer”.
Auctioneer Myers Fine Art anticipates strong interest from collectors, stating: “Nearly 100 years have passed since Man O' War's prime winning streak.
“Leading collectors of thoroughbred racing memorabilia have largely abandoned any hope of owning a relic from the top-ranked equine athlete of all time.”

The February 5 auction in New York will also feature a rare sign from a 1920s era city bakery.

A manufacturer’s stamp on the reverse of the sign reads: “The McSavaney Co. Springfield, Ohio”.
The colours and condition of the sign remain in exceptional condition despite its advanced age. That’s because the bakery closed down after a year and the sign went into storage almost immediately.
It’s valued at $4,000-6,000 but its condition could easily see it double that estimate.
