We've already reported on the flag flown to the Moon aboard Apollo 17 that's for sale in Ira & Larry Goldberg's upcoming Stamp, Space and Manuscript Auction this Saturday (November 6).
The piece is estimated at $3,500-5,000 and is certainly worth a closer look for entry-level investors. What's more, it isn't the only historic flag to appear in the sale with a five figure estimate...
Today, Apollo 13 - man's third mission to the Moon which was aborted after an oxygen tank exploded - is remembered as the 'successful failure'.
Astronauts Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise were lucky to make it back to Earth with their lives, and their ordeal was famously retold in a 1996 Hollywood blockbuster film starring Tom Hanks.
Among the highlights in Ira & Larry Goldberg's Beverly Hills sale is this space flown United States flag, measuring 6 x 4 inches.
The flag is mounted on a NASA multi-colour presentation card that reads, in part: "This flag was on board Apollo XIII during its flight and Emergency Return to Earth."
Given the importance of Apollo 13 in NASA's history and the bravery of its crew, the flag's pre-sale estimate of $1,500-2,500 seems rather low.
However, it's only an estimate, and it'll be very interesting to see how the flag does in the Beverly Hills sale this weekend.
